Obituary of Berneda G. Schnoebelen

Berneda G. Schnoebelen, 90, of Lone Tree, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019, at Pioneer Park Care Center in Lone Tree.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lone Tree.  Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery.  Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457.  Visitation for Berneda will be held on Monday, August 19, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. rosary service at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue, Pioneer Park Care Center or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in memory of Berneda.  Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Berneda Georgean Cook was born on September 6, 1928, in Bennett, Iowa the daughter of George Z. and Ada K. (Lenz) Cook.  On June 11, 1949, Berneda was united in marriage to Herbert N. Schnoebelen in Lone Tree.  She was the bookkeeper for Harry’s Home Oil in Lone Tree from 1948 – 1974 and was also a bank teller for 50 years, first known as Lone Tree Savings Bank and now Farmers and Merchants.  She was the first woman to be an officer at the bank.  She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lone Tree where she served as the bookkeeper, Altar and Rosary, Lone Tree American Legion Auxiliary, Fireman’s Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge in Iowa City.  Berneda volunteered popping popcorn at the VA Hospital in Iowa City for 29 years and also volunteered for many years at the Lone Tree Health Care Center.  Berneda loved to travel, seeing all 50 states and 23 countries.

Berneda will be deeply missed by her children, David H. Schnoebelen and Kurt G. Schnoebelen, both of Lone Tree; one granddaughter, Ashley Heikes; one great granddaughter, Alayna Stocker and one sister, Gladys P. Zibilich of Aurora, Colorado.

Berneda was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Herb.
