Dorothy Platt, 93, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Interment will be in Letts Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the First Christian Church. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Muscatine Special Olympics. Dorothy McGill was born on May 9, 1924 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Albert C. and Vera F. (Brown) McGill. On November 23, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald R. Platt in Davenport, Iowa. Dorothy was a longtime teacher in Muscatine, spending 22 years as a first grade teacher at McKinley Elementary. She was a member of the First Christian church and MARSPA, a retired teacher’s organization. She loved creating and teaching Brazilian embroidery designs as well as stitching and sewing. She created many items, which she sold to support the Muscatine Special Olympics, an organization that was very near and dear to her heart. In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by her daughter, Penny Jones and husband, Bob; two grandchildren, Jessica Jones and Josh Jones and wife, Megan; two great-grandchildren, Bobby and Tony Jones; and one sister, Alberta McGill all of Muscatine.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Michael.
