Obituary of Betty Chatfield

Betty Jean Chatfield, 94, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Bickford Cottage, Muscatine, Iowa.  Funeral services will be Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction.  Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the funeral home from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm.  A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Betty’s name.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. 

       

            Betty Jean Smith was born May 10, 1923 in Letts, Iowa to Gale and Mildred (Hahn) Smith.  Betty graduated for the Columbus Junction High School in 1940.  In August of 1941 Betty was united in marriage to Vernon L. Chatfield in Missouri.  She was a member of Hope Bible Church where she played the piano and taught Sunday school, she was also a member of the Farm Bureau.  Betty enjoyed mowing her lawn, gardening, farming, leading a bible club called Child Evangelism in Columbus Junction, Conesville and Fradonia, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

 

            Betty will be dearly missed by her children, Leonard (Carol) Chatfield of Columbus Junction, Janet (Larry) Martz of Muscatine, Imogene (Dale) Weiland of Osceola, IA; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond G. (Betty Lou) Smith and Lyle (Audrey) Smith both of Columbus Junction.

  

            Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandchild, Lyle Bower; and sister, Verlee Pierce Wells.
