The 14 Stations of the Cross
During the Turkish occupation of the Holy Land in the late Middle Ages, when pilgrims were prevented from visiting its sacred sites, the custom arose of making replicas of those holy places, where the faithful might come to pray. One of the most popular of these devotions was the “Stations of the Way of the Cross”, which were imitations of the “stations”, or stopping places of prayer, on the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem. By the late sixteenth century, the fourteen stations as we know them today, were erected in almost all Catholic churches.
This special package includes the very special "Stations" monument, a 3'x8"x2' all polished Jet Black stone, carved with one of the Stations scenes, set on 4'x1.2"x8" polished top base, installed on a below frost foundation, located on two grave spaces in "Sacred Heart" Section of Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carving included in the cost: Family name on back (West) of the stone. No other carving allowed on the back of the stone. Standard carving on the front includes: family name; given names with or without panels; corner designs; birth date; death date, if deceased; wedding date; "parents of" with children's names, or a scripture verse. Other front etchings or extraordinary design coverings are additional.
